La Casa de Ossuna

En el año de 1958 la ciudad de San Cristóbal de La Laguna recibe un regalo de un valor incalculable, la Casa de Ossuna, su museo y su archivo. La muerte de su último propietario, Don Manuel de Ossuna Saviñón y Benítez de Lugo, sin descendencia, dota a la ciudad de este emblemático inmueble para uso cultural, materializado en el año 2010 con la cesión por parte del Ayuntamiento de La Laguna al Instituto de Estudios Canarios, y con el proyecto del Museo Ossuna, para lo que se ha ido restaurando la pinacoteca y los muebles de la casa, de los siglos XVII, XVIII y XIX principalmente. Su archivo y biblioteca, por su parte, lleva años sirviendo de fuente para la investigación histórica y la reconstrucción de la historia de la ciudad en el Archivo Municipal de La Laguna, donde se ha inventariado, catalogado y clasificado: láminas, fotografías, partituras y escritos de los siglos XVI al XX, entre otros tesoros de nuestro patrimonio documental. La rehabilitación integral de la vivienda, ejecutada por el arquitecto Alejandro Beautell entre los años 2008 y 2010, sirvió para la recuperación de la vivienda tradicional del siglo XVII.

In 1958 the city of San Cristobal de La Laguna received a priceless gift: The House of Ossuna, its museum and its archive. The death of its last owner, Don Manuel de Ossuna Saviñón y Benitez de Lugo, without offspring, gives this emblematic building to the city of La Laguna for cultural use. This fact was done in 2010 with the assignment of this building to the Institute of Canary Studies. The galleries und furnitures from the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were restored for the project of the Museum of Ossuna. Its archive and library, meanwhile, has spent years serving as a source for historical research and reconstruction of the history of the city in the Municipal Archives of La Laguna, which has been inventoried, cataloged and classified: prints, photographs, sheet music and writings of the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries, among other treasures of our documentary heritage. The rehabilitation of the housing, performed by the architect Alejandro Beautell between 2008 and 2010, was used for the traditional housing recovery of the seventeenth century architecture.
