| Iglesia y Convento de San Agustín. Fundado hacia 1506 por frailes agustinos que acompañaban a los conquistadores de la isla de Tenerife. En 1964 su iglesia anexa sufrió un importante incendio, hallándose pendiente su restauración. El antiguo convento arrastra una larga tradición docente, siendo la sede del Instituto de Canarias. en la actualidad parte del mismo se destina a centro de enseñanza y a usos culturales. |
Church and former convent of St. Augustine. This was founded in approximately 1506 by Augustinian friars who accompanied the conquistadors to Tenerife. The adjoining church was damaged by a serious fire in 1964 and is awaiting completion of restoration work. The old convent has a long education tradition and was the first secondary school in the Canaries. Part of the building is still used as a school and for cultural events. |
